Northwest Missouri State University is again seeking nominations to honor and recognize the achievements of some of its own influential women on campus.
“Last year we were honored to renew the Influential Women’s Awards at Northwest, and this year we are proud to help make these awards an annual tradition,” Associate Professor of History Dr. Elyssa Ford, who is helping organize Women’s History Month activities at Northwest, said. “Women have worked for centuries to access rights and reach for equality, and we would like to remind our community about the important work that women do on our campus.”
The Northwest community is encouraged to nominate female students, faculty and staff at Northwest who have positively influenced lives and made outstanding contributions to the University community. Nominations must be submitted by noon Monday, March 16, by visiting r8l.suzhuan-sh.com/diversity/women/.
Northwest will honor the “Influential Women of Northwest” with a reception and recognition at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at the B.D. Owens Library.
The recognition event is sponsored by the Office of the Provost, Missouri Gold and Academic Success and Retention. Additionally, national honorees will be recognized with a special exhibit that will be unveiled at the recognition.
National Women's History Month was founded in 1987 when the U.S. Congress declared that it be celebrated each March. A presidential proclamation is issued annually to honor the achievements of American women. The national theme for this year’s commemoration is “Valiant Women of the Vote,” in recognition of the women who paved the path for women’s right to vote.
